When last I wrote I was just about to take off for my second track weekend at Thunderhill; and that turned out to be even better than the first one! Temperatures at the track were slightly cooler than in July, and by Sunday, my driving had significantly improved. I still get butterflies in the belly before each session, but I have come to believe that is a good thing; keeps you sharp. HPDE's for me are a two steps forward, one step back experience. I found that even though I was familiar with the track from my prior DE, my skill level did not stay at the 'peak' it had attained by the time I left that first event. I did however, get back to and surpass that level by the end of this one. I really encourage all of you that enjoy autocross to do at least one HPDE. It took me 6 years of autocross to get up the nerve to do a track event. I am not sure why I waited so long.

Speaking of autocross, we just finished our 8th autocross of 2014. I want to thank Grady, Bob, Anita, Craig, Mac, James, Tom, Greg, Kurt and all the others of you who consistently show up, both before and during the event to support autocross. These great times would just not be possible without you. I want to single out Bob Schoenherr for special thanks regarding the many times he has trailered his car to the site just so we have a vehicle to tow the autocross trailer. I know it would have been a lot more fun for him to just drive his 914 down. Thanks Bob!

Coming up on Sunday, October 19th is our Annual Members Meeting. As in past years this will start with a drive and end up at the Union Hotel in Occidental. Mike Hinton will lead the drive this year. This meeting is a last opportunity to throw your hat in the ring for one of the four elected Board positions (President, VP, Secretary and Treasurer). It is also an opportunity to acknowledge all the work that our Board has done and to generally celebrate our club and its members. Please attend if you can.

Though there are only four elected positions, there are many appointed Board positions. We have openings for Event Director, Membership Director, and Newsletter Editor(s). Additionally there are always opportunities for members to volunteer and assist in other ways. Your club needs you, and volunteering is not only fun, but a great way to deepen your Porsche Club friendships and build new ones. Please speak with me or any other Board member if you would like to be more involved.

Events for November include our last autocross of 2014 (AX #9 on November 1st) and a dinner run to the Plaza Bistro in Sonoma (November 8th). I heard a rumor that the autocross may involve multiple-lap runs. Those of you that attended the October autocross or have done our 'Emmett Wilder Enduros' in the past know what fun this can be. The run to the Plaza Bistro will start in the afternoon and get to the Sonoma Town Square around 6 pm. This is the third year of this event, and it is always a great time. I hope you can attend. Please see below for details.

I'll close this month by saying thanks to a few more folks:
  • Holger and Martina for another great Oktoberfest event
  • Kurt for leading the Oktoberfest tour yet again
  • Jerry and Barbara for their 'temporary' role as Newsletter Editors (for 2+ years)
  • James for another successful Zone 7 Concours at Ledson
That's all for now.  Down the road.
