Well, we just wrapped up a jam-packed month of September, and early October for Porsche events.  In the past five weeks, I've attended a winery tour, two autocross events (in different cars), a concours, and the three-day extravaganza that was Rennsport Reunion V at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
The autocross events included my favorite event of the year - the Emmett Wilder Enduro Autocross.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with the "enduro" event, it differs from our typical events by featuring two three-lap "enduros" in the afternoon, instead of single-lap runs.  I've always found the multi-lap format useful for refining and improving driving techniques, because it's easy to remember how you handled certain sections of the course a mere 40 seconds ago.  This year's event was no exception, and I learned a couple of new things in my final 3-lap run that will help me and my faithful autocross companion, Barney, to go faster next year.  The only bad thing is that we won't get to test these cool new ideas again until next March!
Although there will be other stories about Rennsport Reunion V in this issue, I wanted to add a couple of takeaways from my experience this year.  The first amazing thing was the dazzling array of historic and newer Porsche racing cars.  It's hard to describe how thrilling it is to see vintage prototypes like the 906, 908, and 917 battling it out at speed, and then later being able to marvel at the progress of race car design as the more contemporary RS Spyders and 911RSRs demonstrated their speed.
For me, though, the most amazing thing was the number of genuinely friendly people that I met over the course of the weekend.  I was fortunate enough to be able to spend time with Rod Emory (of outlaw 356 fame), Alex Ross of Sharkwerks, and ace photographer Michael Alan Ross.  All are very skilled in their field, and are super easy-going, genuine car (especially Porsche) enthusiasts.  We also hosted a dinner on Saturday evening with 13 Region members and guests which was a great gathering.  It just goes to prove once again, that the Club is not just about cars, but about people too!

I hope to see you at one of the upcoming events.
