Earlier this year, the Club was looking to plan a Breakfast/Lunch Run in April. Sharon Neidel and I wanted to lead one, so we volunteered to plan it. Whenever we have been out in the Russian River area and drive by the Northwood Golf Course, I mention that it used to be a Redwood Region hangout many years ago. So after the Point Reyes Station Brunch Run in March, we headed up to check it out. The Northwood Restaurant sits among the redwoods overlooking the golf course. We met with owner Barbara Kokalis and decided on April 21 for a Brunch Run.

Saturday morning was a typical beautiful North Bay morning. Everyone met at Kaffe Mocha, by Sonoma County Airport, for the usual chit-chat and catching up with people we haven't seen for a while or new members. I had planned on bringing the "Goodie Store" to the start and we would drive Sharon's 968 on the tour. Well, so much for planning ahead! There was going to be a Zone 7 Concours Rules meeting on Sunday that Sharon and I were to attend, but at the last minute it had been changed to Saturday. So Sharon headed out to Shingle Springs early Saturday. I did not want to lead the tour driving the Porsche Support Vehicle (Ford Expedition), so I called Kurt Fischer (who had RSVP'd as a single) and asked Kurt if he would mind me riding with him.

After our drivers' meeting, 25 Porsches and 45 people headed west and then south of the airport, eventually making our way onto River Road. From there, we took Laguna Rd. to Vine Hill Rd., making our way south to Guerneville Road. From Guerneville Road we headed up Gravenstein Hwy. to Ross Station Rd. and worked our way down some back roads to Graton. We continued south, eventually coming out onto Bodega Hwy., a fun "Porsche" road, especially this time of year before all the tourists and RV's head for the coast. After about 8 miles of spirited driving, we headed north on Joy. Rd, which would take us up to Occidental. Here we turned onto one of the best "Porsche roads", Bohemian Hwy./Main St. for some more spirited driving back up to River Rd., then a short drive to Northwood.

Barbara had setup Northwood's party room for our group, and had planned the overflow to sit outside. Since it was such a beautiful North Bay day, most of the group preferred the outside area. We relaxed and spent a lot of time talking about numerous subjects, including John and Kaye Jackson and Bob Sherwood talking about their planned trip to Europe. Thortsen & Simone Kopitzki were also talking about their upcoming trip home to Germany.

Thanks to Kurt for letting me be his passenger. I enjoyed seeing the sights instead of driving. Make sure you watch the calendar for the next Brunch/Lunch Run so you can enjoy these wonderful "Porsche roads" we have in the North Bay!
